KBC has developed expertise in various areas of Alternative Fuels and Feedstocks to meet the needs of our clients. Part of our Environmental Solutions offering, our team possesses experience in Biofuels (ethanol and biodiesel - 1st and 2nd generation), GNG/LPG, F-T Diesel (from xTL), and Hydrogen. We have also worked with clients to employ alternative feedstocks such as vegetable and animal oils processed in existing refineries (such as hydrocracker, hydrotreater partial feed, "biocrudes"), and alternative blendstocks (biofuels, F-T diesel, ETBE, butanol, DME, methanol).
Through our Market Analysis, Feasibility Studies, Capital Project Support, Operational Planning, Process Optimisation, Energy and GHG/CO2 reduction, Reliability and Turnaround Improvement, and Organisational services, KBC has already helped clients in this developing area. Some of the work we have done in this area includes, but is not limited to, the following: - Analysing "green diesel" blending for a major biofuels producer to help the client understand the true value of biodiesel blendstock when blended with conventional refinery diesel
- Reviewing and improving the design of a major Gas to Liquids plant to improve energy consumption and reduce capital costs
- Building an LP model and improving planning processes for a major existing Coal to Liquids facility in South Africa
- Providing Organisational Services for a major Coal to Liquids facility in South Africa
- Performing GTL diesel valuation studies for a major Australian Oil & Gas company
- Providing Reliability, Availability, & Maintenance services for a GTL facility in South Africa (and the offshore gas platform that feeds it)
